As you may know already, Pete has been breeding and training Labrador retrievers for over 27 years (as of 2025). He had his first Labrador retriever, Juneau, a chocolate female Lab, and he was living with his family in Greenview, California, in the Scott Valley, where Pete worked as the director of Kidder Creek Camp. While coaching various sports at local schools in the community, he observed that those kids who were raised on farms and ranches were especially diligent, hardworking, and determined. He started a small hobby breeding and training kennel, in order to instill the same work ethic into his own children, never realizing that his side gig would develop into a home-based business that would grow to be one of the largest Labrador retriever breeding and training kennels on America's West Coast.
Marble Mountain Kennels has undergone many changes over the years. After Pete retired from running Kidder Creek Camp, he moved the business to the Shasta Valley, five minutes outside Yreka, California, where he expanded our partner breeder program, basic obedience training, hunting training, and more recently, our service dog training program in 2025.
